1) 蠔穀屋乃廣東特色，可追塑至宋代。為甚麼為廣東獨有？因為五邑一帶盛產以前是海邊，地下蠔殼極多，前人於是就地取材，以此建屋。

2) 後來，在五邑、沙井等地，蠔穀屋變成窮等人家的住所 —即是說因為無錢，所以才用蠔殼和泥灰做牆，有錢則買磚頭做牆。

3) 在其他地方(如碧江鎮)，蠔穀牆被視作身份象徵!???! (物離鄉貴？)

(2) agree with 小西, re-use of resources, if some fell out, go buy oysters and steam it for dinner, the next morning, replace the missing shell outside and you'll have a beautiful home (3) allow 老麥 to put this photo up for discussion. :P Reasons for using oyster shells as exterior wall cover:
